今日はアラブの春がおこった Bahrain(バーレーン)についてです!
1971年にイギリスから独立した Bahrain(バーレーン)ですが、国内における Sunni(イスラム教スンニ派)とShia(イスラム教シーア派)の分断が止まないんです。
その中でも、Bahrain(バーレーン) はイランやイラクのように Shia(イスラム教シーア派)が多い国なのですが、国内の政治における権力は Sunni(イスラム教スンニ派)の王族が持っていて、Shia(イスラム教シーア派)に不利な仕組みや格差があるんですね。

Bahrain got independence from Britain in 1971 and started military cooperation with the United States.
After Bahrain joins the Gulf Cooperation Council(GCC) in 1981, radical oppositions tried to overthrow the government after influenced by the Iranian revolution.
Bahrain becomes a constitutional monarchy in 2002, but protests to demand a fully-elected parliament occurred in 2005. The Sunni-led kingdom accused the majority Shia for promoting violent protests.
The Arab Spring in 2011 inspired people to protest in Bahrain, and violence happened not only with police but also including Saudi troops that were called by the Bahraini government. The Sunni-led kingdom also enforced harsh rules against opposition protesters, including death penalties and prohibition of Shia-majority political parties.
Although the country's majority population is the Shia Muslim, they have been ruled by the Sunni Muslim and remained poor under big socioeconomic and political divisions in the country. The Sectarian conflict between Shia and Sunni remained strong in Bahrain, and United Nations accused the Sunni-led kingdom for a systematic campaign of unfair treatment against the country's Shia Muslim population.
In addition to the Sunni-led kingdom and the Shia opposition, there are also people in between, however, those who are more liberal and secular are often ignored by sectarian tensions including violence.
Now it should be easier to read the recent news.
