隣国 Egypt（エジプト）が統治していた the Sinai peninsula と the Gaza Strip
隣国 Jordan（ヨルダン） が統治していた the West Bank と East Jerusalem
Conflicts between Israel and Palestine, in other words,
Conflicts between the Jews and the Arabs (Muslims), in other words,
Conflicts between people who want to have its own state and people who want to protect its territories.
The area where Israel and Palestine has fought over was originally called Palestine under the Ottoman Empire, but after the end of World War 1 with the corruption of the Empire, Britain started ruling the area.
People who live in the area are mostly the Arabs and Jewish minorities, but since there was no Jewish country in the world with the history of persecution against the Jews, Jewish people saw the area as their home. As a matter of fact, when a lot of the Jews were persecuted during World War 2, they escaped to the area.
The majority Arabs in the area, however, was threatened by this mass movement of the Jews into the area, and therefore, the frustration between the Jews and the Arabs became tense. Although Britain remained the control over the area at that time, Britain asked the newly established United Nations to solve the situation.
In 1947, the United Nations suggested the division of the area between the Jewish state and the Arab state. The Jews who were happy to gain their safety and home country accepted this suggestion, but the Arabs who did not want to give the area to the Jews did not accept the suggestion.
This conflict escalated to the war in 1948, and the Jews won the war and occupied the most of the area. When Britain left the area, the Jews started calling the area Israel. Since this time, the area was divided into Israel, the Gaza Strip under Egyptian control and the West Bank under Jordan control instead of Palestine.
The Arabs did not accept this decision and created the Palestine Liberation Organization(PLO) to fight against Israel in 1964.
In 1967, Israel won the war, known as the Six Day War, and expanded its territory.
The Sinai peninsula and the Gaza Strip under Egypt control
The West Bank and East Jerusalem under Jordan control
The Golan Heights under Syria control
Israel occupied all of them above.
Although the international community did not recognize this invasion, but Egypt recognized Israel as the Jewish country in in 1979 in exchange of the return of he Sinai peninsula and the withdrawal of the Israeli troops in Egypt.
The Arabs who live in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip were not happy about the situation and started protest, known as the first intifada in 1987. Plus, at this time, some Arabs established a radical Islamic organization Hamas.
Due to this protest, The Palestine Liberation Organization(PLO) and Israel made agreement under the Oslo accord in 1992, and Israel gave up the occupation in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. This, however, led Hamas to take over the control in the Gaza Strip instead of the Palestine Liberation Organization(PLO).
In 2000, the Arabs started protest, known as the second intifada, as a response of the then Israeli prime minister visiting Jerusalem in the West Bank where the religious sacred area was not belonged to any countries. This protest lasted for 5 years with violence.
The conflict over the territory between the Arabs and the Jews still continue even today.
