Note in English
Mali is an African country that got independence from France in 1960, but the political governance in the country has not yet been stabilized.
Mali government is based in the southern area of the country, including the capital Bamako where a lot of people live, but , Tuareg, one of the various ethnic groups in the country, live in the northern area and has fought against the government.
In 2012, Tuareg succeeded in overthrowing the government with the support from Al Qaeda and declared its independence in the north although it failed because the influence of Al Qaeda remained strong in the area.
As a response to the rise of radical islamists, French troops started military actions to support the Mali government to fight against Tuareg backed by Al Qaeda.
In addition to the conflict over the political power between the south and the north, a Dogon village, where farmers want to grow food, and a Fulani village, where herders want to grow their livestock, both located in central Mali have keep fighting over the natural resources even today.
Now it should be easier to understand the recent news.
