今日は現在アフリカで感染拡大中の Ebola Virus(エボラウイルス)についてです!

エボラウイルスの歴史

Ebola Virus(エボラウイルス)は1976年にコンゴ民主共和国に流れる the Ebola Riverという川の付近で発見され、起源は定かではないものの、動物から人間、人間から人間へとアフリカを中心に感染が広がっていったんです。

エボラウイルスの種類

Ebola Virus(エボラウイルス)には種類があって、

人へ感染する

1. Ebola virus or Zaire ebolavirus 
2. Sudan virus 
3. Taï Forest virus or Côte d’Ivoire ebolavirus 
4. Bundibugyo virus   

人に感染しない

5. Reston virus 

新しく発見されて不明な点が多い
6. Bombali virus 

などが確認されています。

 

主な感染経路

Ebola Virus(エボラウイルス)に感染しているヒトや動物の体液や血に直接触れたり、服などの物体を介して体液や血に触れることでウイルスが体内に移動します。

主な治療法

Zaire ebolavirus が一番危険な種類で一番多く確認されていて、2019年の12月にアメリカでZaire ebolavirus の感染を予防するワクチンが承認されたのですが、治療薬などはまだ開発途中なんですね。

主な症状

Ebola Virus(エボラウイルス)感染後、数日から最大21日までのあいだにインフルエンザと同じような症状がでるのですが、内出血を伴うこともあり、高い致死率であるために感染源に注意を払うことが大事なんです。

Ebola virus was first discovered in 1976 near the Ebola River in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The origin of the virus is still unknown, but infected animals with the Ebola virus can infect to other animals and people. The viruses mainly located in sub-Saharan Africa.

Types of Ebolavirus:

1. Ebola virus or Zaire ebolavirus (Infectious to people)
2. Sudan virus (Infectious to people)
3. Taï Forest virus or Côte d’Ivoire ebolavirus (Infectious to people)
4. Bundibugyo virus (Infectious to people)

5. Reston virus (not infectious to people)
6. Bombali virus (unknown since it is new)

 

How it spreads

Direct contact or contact through objects with blood, urine, saliva, sweat, poop, vomit, breast milk, amniotic fluid, and semen of a person or a animal who has Ebola virus disease (EVD).

Vaccination

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved the first Ebola vaccine for the prevention of the Zaire ebolavirus on December 19, 2019. 

 

Symptoms

Symptom might be seen in a few days up to 21 days after infection, but it is similar to common illness, such as influenza (flu) and malaria. It can lead to internal bleeding as well.

After infection

Good medical support to relieve the symptoms and maintaining strong immune system are important. The virus could be seen in a test for a long time.
